You may have seen him walking along the creek, sitting on the Community Store porch, talking to locals and tourists, or “down base” watching the sunset and always with his beloved wife Chloe. I’m referring to Fowler O’Neal.
Fowler was in the coast guard during WWII stationed at midway during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He became a master knot tier, which is not as simple as it may seem.
Fowler passed away at the age of 87 in January 2009. While going through his many collections, Chloe came across a basket of knots that Fowler had been working on. These were called “Love Knots”.
They are believed to have the power to bring back a lost love, capture the heart of the one you love, and to keep your true love faithful.
Chloe and Fowler were said to be joined at the hip. Where you saw one the other was right there. They were married for 50 years and I don’t believe they ever had a cross word between them. If the belief of the love knot created their kind of love, just think what it may do for you. These are the original made by Fowler; there are no more when they are gone. Made by the hands of a man truly in love with his wife.

Fishermen are always concerned about knot strength, and rightly so. After all, who wants to lose that fish of a lifetime through a line breaking at a weak knot.
A fishing loop knot is an essential part of several fishing rigs like ledger rigs or sabikis and the conventional dropper loop knot or blood loop is normally used for these rigs.
It is also very commonly used in many others rigs where a loop knot protruding at a right angle from the fishing line is required.
The conventional blood dropper loop, while being very easy to make, is probably the weakest knot you can tie in your tackle.
The uni knot is a very popular fishing knot and many fishermen consider it to be one of the best fishing knots for tying a leader to swivel. It is a reliable general purpose fishing knot and is very easy to tie.
To start form a large loop with a long tail to make tying this knot easier
- Pull the knot up slowly for maximum strength.
- Wet the line if necessary to lubricate on stiff nylon.
- If the knot jams while tying cut it off and start again.
